Elfin Cove Catch of the day

Fishing

Avid recreational fishing enthusiasts are in the right place with Fire Island Eco Retreats. We offer some of the best fishing destinations in the world to our valued guests.  Open to anglers of all experience levels, we provide fishing expeditions in the Northern Hemisphere at our Elfin Cove Resort located in Glacier Bay, Alaska. In the Southern Hemisphere, off the coast of north-eastern Mozambique, from our Ilha do Fogo retreat. When fishing with us in Alaska, you have the option of choosing between freshwater and saltwater deep sea fishing. The most abundant fish species in this region consist of halibut, king salmon, lingcod, rockfish, and many more. As a bonus, whatever you catch, you can keep and bring home (please see our FAQ about fishing licensing). Our flagship island, Ilha do Fogo, is within the Primeiras e Segundas Environmental Protection Area or EPA. This area is considered Africa’s largest coastal marine reserve. Fishing in these waters, you will see a diverse selection of migratory fish, depending on the season.  While you can fish in the area year-round, the best fishing season in this region starts in October and ends in January. During this time of year, you can expect to catch marlin, giant kingfish, dogtooth tuna, wahoo, and dorado. We encourage guests to practice fishing on a catch and release principle when angling for migratory game fish. If you catch any sustainable bottom fish, you can keep it for your consumption, or trade it with the local communities.  Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any enquiries regarding fishing.
